Depending on who you ask, electronic cigarettes are either the devil or a saving grace. Sarah Henris, associate director of the Nassau Region PTA, is more apt to side with the former. The use of e-cigarettes is highly debated. Their rising popularity has led the Oxford Dictionary to name “vape” 2014’s Word of the Year.

Julie Woessner, president of the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives believes that e-cigarettes have a lot to offer, not only as a smoking cessation tool, but as an alternative for those who don’t want to quit smoking.

Dr Brian King is a senior scientific advisor in the Office of Smoking and Health at the Center for Disease Control.  He believes that it is best to err on the side of caution in the wake of inconclusive science, as e-cigarettes may be an on-ramp to smoking conventional cigarettes, especially for youths.
