Last month, President Barack Obama signed an executive order to prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment on the basis of sexual orientation. An amendment to the 1964 Employment Non Discrimination Act signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the order bars discrimination against employees of the federal government, about 28 million people, or one-fifth of the nation’s workforce.

Kate Kendell is the Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. She breaks down what the order will do going forward and the backlash that is sure to come on Hofstra’s Morning Wake Up Call.
