Beyonce: feminist icon or failure?

Man-hating. Angry. Extreme. These are just a few words that have been used to descirbe feminists. But now, a new image comes to mind. Beyonce. Last weeks MTV Video Music Awards closed with a show-stopping performance from Beyonce. In the aftermath, there was more chatter than ever praising Queen Bey as this generation’s feminist icon.

But is this an accurate description? I sat down with Samhita Mukhopadhya, former executive editor for Feministing.com and current senior strategist for Purpose.com, to find out.
